WEEK 5:
What did you do differently last week? For one thing, the prompt was visual. We used images from the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. How did it feel to work with a visual prompt? Did you get out of your comfort zone? I know that I did!
I’m so happy to hear via your emails and through the forum that for many of us, “getting out of our comfort zone” meant sharing our work and even some publishing success!
Isn’t it interesting that “comfort” is often equated with holding on and keeping what we do to ourselves? Not anymore. We’re ILLUMINATED.
Word of the Week: Illuminate
Part of the magic of Garvies Point is that the ground is made of clay. You can play with it all you want, but don’t take anything, including this clay, home with you.
Imagine now that you found a chunk of this special clay on the beach. Take a small piece into your hands. Lift it up to your nose. Breathe.

What does it smell like? Can you imagine how it would taste? Hold the gray, pink and beige marble-like soil in your palms. After a while, you start to notice a shape forming in your hands. Close your eyes and picture what you have sculpted from earth. Breathe.
When you are ready. Open your eyes. Wow. This is not at all what you expected to see. The first image, word, or thought is the sculpture itself.
Describe what this tiny gift looks like. Hold it up to the sun. Watch it glow in the light.
How did it get there? Did you make it? Did someone swap the unformed piece of clay for a masterpiece? Or are you really a talented sculptor but just didn’t know it yet?
Put your new piece of artwork on the table or desk where you write. Let it stay there all week and when you don’t need it anymore, give it to someone else as a gift.
This week: Shine light on what you keep hidden. Illuminate.
See you next week – on the other side of the cliff, Stefanie
